2023 Candy and Nut Sale

Our fall fundraiser, the Candy and Nut Sale began on September 20th, but there’s still time to participate! Girl Scouts can earn multiple patches by participating in the hybrid sale, by using both online and paper forms. There are various ways Girl Scouts can earn patches when they participate in the sale. By selling 15 candy and nut items and 2 magazine subscriptions girls can earn 2 patch segments. A final patch can be earned by doing nothing more than registering on the nut sale website and entering 15 email addresses. More specifics are in the Nut & Candy packet; we’ll have additional copies on Friday. The deadline to turn in money for in-person sales is October 22nd.

Fire Camp- Canceled

Unfortunately, Fire Camp had to be postponed due to low enrollment. We’ll be re-scheduling in the spring and will let you know as soon as the date is confirmed.

Breast Cancer Walk

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and the EOCCS Girl Scouts have our own breast cancer survivor: Ms. Vera. Once again, to show our support we’re going to help out at the Breast Cancer Walk in Newark on Sunday, October 15th.

Like last year, we will also be cheering on walkers, from 9:00am-11:30am, as they stride to eliminate cancer. All cheerers must be at Mulberry Commons Park, 165 Mulberry St, across from the Prudential Center in Newark, by 9:00am.

As always, the health and safety of the participants is paramount to the organizers. The walk will have staggered start times, to encourage social distancing. Because the walk is eco-friendly, everyone is encouraged to bring their own re-useable water bottles.

Disney on Ice

We’ve got a limited number of tickets to see Disney on Ice – Magic in the Stars at the Prudential Center in Newark on Friday, November 3rd at 7p. (We’ll be leaving right after the meeting). Tickets are $28 per person for this family event, and all are welcome to attend. Payment is due October 20th. Our tickets usually go fast, so get yours ASAP.

Camping  at Hoover

Our postponed overnight camping trip to Camp Lou Henry Hoover in Newton, NJ is the weekend of November 17-19. We'll spend Friday and Saturday nights sleeping in cabins. We'll have a fun day, hiking and completing badges. Although we are not sleeping in tents, everyone will need a sleeping bag or bed roll. If you registered before August 31st, you just need to pay the fee, ($5 per girl/$10 per adult) which includes all activities, food, camping and transportation. Unfortunately, registration for this event is closed.

    Dues

You've paid your $40 registration to the council. Now what? There is still $75 troop dues which supports the troop. Dues are payable in 3 payments of $25.00 each.

The first dues payment is due on Friday, October 6th. The second payment is due on November 3rd, while the final payment is due on December 1st. Alternatively, you can pay the full amount at one time. Remember, troop dues cover the cost of books, badges, other supplies and snacks.

There’s no need to send money to school. We prefer CashApp but accept all electronic payments. There’s no fee to send money to $CharterGirlScouts, using CashApp. Just remember to put your daughter’s name and the reason.

 Uniforms

Our troops uniform consists of a white shirt, vest and khaki bottoms. The vest, along with the council patch and flag, can be purchased at the council shop for approximately $49.00. GSUSA has added to their uniform collection, so there are lots of options for girls to wear. Purchasing a Starter kit is not necessary. For parents who don’t want to pay for shipping, Dr. Holman goes to Westfield once a month on Tuesdays and is happy to pick up uniform components

Please note, you MUST have a vest to be considered in uniform. Wearing the girl scout colors is NOT sufficient nor are graphic T-shirts. In addition, only age level badges go on the front of the uniform, Nut, Cookie and other fun patches must be placed on the back.

As a reminder, girls can wear their scout uniform in place of the EOCCS uniform. Check out the link on the left for uniform specifics, troop numbers & levels. Use the pictures as a guide to know where iron-on/sew everything.
