September 2026

Dear Parents,

Welcome to the 2026-2027 Scout Year! Please save this link, as it contains a lot of important information.

Registration

As a reminder, beginning with the 2026-2027 scout year, the annual registration fee to join Girl Scouts has increased to $80. There are several ways to register for returning Girl Scouts to pay:

  • Re-register through the Girl Scout website - gshnj.org

  • Send $80 to Mrs. Holman by cash, check or through Zelle ($CharterGirlScouts) or PayPal (charter_girlscouts@yahoo.com).

  • Complete a Financial Assistance form with supporting documentation

Registration fees go directly to the council and do not benefit the troop. All girls MUST be registered to participate.

Meetings

Girl Scout meetings will be held the 1st and 3rd Fridays of the months that school is in session. A link to our calendar on the left. Meetings will be at 99 Washington on the 2nd floor. There's no need to bring girls to the meetings. 2nd graders will be transported to 682 with the Aftercare students. Then all Girl Scouts will be walked across the street with their leaders.

Meetings are from 4:15-5:45pm. Please try not to pick up your daughter before 5:40p as we are having snacks and doing closing circles. However, picking up your child after 6:00p prevents us from spending time with our own children and families. As a result, parents who arrive after 6:00 will be subject to a $1/minute late fee which is payable when the girl scout is picked up.

2026 Candy and Nut Sale

Our fall fundraiser- Nuts, Candy, Mags & More -begins on Wednesday, September 16th before the troop starts meeting. Girl Scouts can earn multiple patches by participating in the hybrid sale, by using both online and paper forms. Parents of registered girls can pick up a nut order card at 106 Washington St or at a meeting

There are various ways Girl Scouts can earn patches when they participate in the sale. By selling 15 candy and nut items and 3 magazine subscriptions girls can earn 2 patches. Another patch can be earned by registering on the nut sale website and entering 16 email addresses. Girls can earn a final patch by selling 5 items for donation. More specifics are in the Fall Product Sale packet. The deadline to turn in money for in-person sales is due October 24th. All girls must be registered for the new 2026-2027 scout year to participate in the sale.

Breast Cancer Walk

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and the EOCCS Girl Scouts have our own breast cancer survivor: Ms. Vera. Once again, to show our support we’re going to help out at the Breast Cancer Walk in Newark on Sunday, October 18th.

This year the older girls are being asked to set up the event for the walkers from 7:30-10:00a. Girls who assist with set-up will receive a community service certificate which they can use to document required service for graduation.

Like last year, we will also be cheering on walkers, from 9:00am-11:30am, as they stride to eliminate cancer. All cheerers must be at Mulberry Commons Park, 165 Mulberry St, across from the Prudential Center in Newark, by 9:00am.

                                 Dues

You've paid your $80 registration fee to the council—now what about the troop?

Please note that while Girl Scouts Heart of New Jersey (GSHNJ) provides financial assistance to cover the registration fee, it does not extend to troop dues. Dues MUST be paid by parents. Our troop is entirely self-supported. We rely solely on annual troop dues and product sales (like nuts and cookies) to fund everything we do.

To cover rising costs and ensure we can offer a full rich experience for our scouts, annual troop dues are increasing to $90 this year. Our last dues increase was in 2017. Last year, we unfortunately had to scale back some of our planned activities due to funding limitations. This adjustment allows us to avoid those cutbacks and continue directly supporting our troops by covering the cost of books, supplies, badges, and snacks.

Payment Options

  • Three Installments ($30 each):

    • Payment 1: Friday, October 2nd

    • Payment 2: Friday, November 13th

    • Payment 3: Friday, December 4th

  • Pay in Full: You can also choose to pay the full $90 amount at one time by October 2nd.

 Uniforms

Our troops uniform consists of a white polo shirt, vest and khaki skirt or pants. The vest, along with the council patch, can be purchased from GSUSA for approximately $48.00 for younger girls; for Cadettes and above the it's approximately $53.00. The vest can be paired with your choice of khaki bottoms. There's more optional official apparel online. Purchasing a Starter kit is not necessary. Both the Leadership Center in Newark, and Coumcil office in Wesfield have uniform shops.

Please note, you MUST have a vest to be considered in uniform. Wearing the girl scout colors is NOT sufficient nor are graphic T-shirts. In addition, only age level badges go on the front of the uniform, Nut, Cookie and other fun patches must be placed on the back.

Check out the link on the left for uniform specifics, troop numbers & levels. Use the pictures as a guide to know where iron-on/sew everything.

End-of-the-Year Recognition Ceremony

Please join us in celebrating our girls for all the hard work, dedication, and amazing achievements they have accomplished this year!

  • Date: Friday, June 12th

  • Ceremony Time: 5:30 PM – 7:00 PM

  • Location: Multipurpose Room (99 Washington St.)

It’s going to be a fantastic party, and light refreshments will be served!

Important Information for Parents:

  • No After-School Pickup Needed: Since the girls need to be ready by our regular meeting time of 4:15 PM, they do not need to be picked up from school. We will transition them straight into the meeting/ceremony preparation.

  • Uniforms: Please ensure your daughter has her Scout uniform with her for the ceremony so she is ready to be recognized.

We are so proud of the girls and can't wait to celebrate the end of a wonderful Scout year together. We hope to see you all there!

Troop Funding

We want to share an important update regarding our troop’s finances and activities. Our goal is always to provide the best possible experience for the girls, and we believe full transparency is the best way to do that.

How Our Troop is Funded Our troop is entirely self-supported. We rely solely on annual troop dues and product sales (like nuts and cookies) to fund everything we do.

  • Registration Fees: The $60 registration fee you pay goes directly to our local council (Girl Scouts Heart of New Jersey) and GSUSA. The troop does not keep any of this.

  • School Support: We do not receive funding from EOCCS; however, the school generously provides us with meeting space and storage for our supplies.

The Current Budget Reality To cover the cost of badges, books, supplies, snacks, and to subsidize our trips, each girl is assessed $75 in annual dues (payable in three $25 installments). To give you some perspective, our annual budget for badges alone is $2,000.

Unfortunately, we faced two significant financial hurdles this year:

  • Dues: Despite multiple reminders since our first due date in October monthly follow-ups and a written reminder in February, fewer than half of the girls paid their dues this year.

  • Cookie Sales: Participation was low, and we sold over 200 fewer cases of cookies than we did last year.

What This Means for the Girls Because our funding was significantly lower this year, we simply did not have the budget to take our usual number of trips. We love treating the girls to these experiences, but we can only provide what our budget allows.

We are sharing this not to discourage anyone, but to give you a clear picture of how vital your support is. Moving forward into the next scout year, timely dues and active participation in fundraisers will be essential to getting our trip calendar back to its full potential.

Thank you to everyone who paid their dues and worked hard on the cookie sale. We appreciate your continued partnership in making this a great experience for the girls.
