Dear Parents,
Welcome to the 2023-2024 Scout Year!
We’ve gots lots of plans for the upcoming scout year and can’t wait to share them with you.
Registration
The annual registration fee to join Girl Scouts is $40 and there are several ways to register. You can re-register through the following link. Girl Scout Re-registration. Returning Girl Scouts can also pay the registration fee by sending $40 to Dr. Holman by cash, check or through CashApp ($CharterGirlScouts) or PayPal (charter_girlscouts@yahoo.com). The Girl Scout council also provides financial assistance to cover the $40 registration fee to anyone who applies. The form can be downloaded from the Permission slip link on the left or you can request to have one sent home with your daughter. Financial Assistance form MUSTbe returned with proof of income. Registration fees go directly to the council and do not benefit the troop. All girls MUST be registered to participate.
Meetings
Like last year, Girl Scout meetings will begin in September, starting on Friday September 15th. We’ll be going over rules and procedures. The council has moved up the date of the Nut Sale and we want to get it out to everyone.
Girl Scout meetings will be held the 1st and 3rd Fridays of the months that school is in session. A link to our calendar on the left. Meetings will be at 99 Washington on the 2nd floor. There's no need to bring girls to the meetings. 2nd graders will be transported to 682 with the aftercare students. Then all Girl Scouts will be walked across the street with their leaders.
Meetings are from 4:15-5:45pm. Please try not to pick up your daughter before 5:40p as we are having snacks and doing closing circles. However, picking up your child after 6:00p prevents us from spending time with our own children. As a result, parents arriving after 6:00 will be subject to a $1/minute late fee which is payable when the girl scout is picked up.

Camp Hoover
Our first trip this year will be an overnight camping trip to Camp Lou Henry Hoover in Newton, NJ, the weekend of September 8th-10th. We'll spend Friday and Saturday nights sleeping in cabins. We'll have a fun day, do archery, tackle a ropes course, hiking and more. Although we are not sleeping in tents, everyone will need a sleeping bag or bed roll. Also, everyone will have to bring their own dinner for Friday night. The $5 per person cost includes all activities, other meals, cabin camping and transportation. Due to their age, all Daisies must be accompanied by an adult.
If you re-registered during the summer, you’re registered for camp. The $5 per person cost includes all activities, other meals, cabin camping and transportation and is due Friday, September 8th. Permission slips and supply list are on the Forms page to the left.
2023 Candy and Nut Sale
Our fall fundraiser, the Candy and Nut Sale begins on Wednesday, September 20th. Girl Scouts can earn multiple patches by participating in the hybrid sale, by using both online and paper forms. We’ll be handing out forms at our first meeting, on September 15th.
There are various ways Girl Scouts can earn patches when they participate in the sale. By selling 15 candy and nut items and 2 magazine subscriptions girls can earn 2 patch segments. A final patch can be earned by registering on the nut sale website and entering 15 email addresses. More specifics are in the Nut & Candy packet. The deadline to turn in money for in-person sales is October 20th.
Fire Camp
Have you ever wanted to know more about first responders? Come to Fire Camp at the Oval, October 7th-9th! During the camp, you’ll learn about First Responder careers from the Queens in Fire - female Fire, Police, EMTs and more. You’ll alos receive first aid training and gain an understanding of what challenges are faced as you meet these amazingly, courageous women. It’s $25 for the weekend and includes food, lodging, a patch and off-site trips. You MUST register by September 15th to attend. Sorry this opportunity is only open to 8th graders and up.
Dues
You've paid your $40 registration to the council. Now what? There is still $75 troop dues which supports the troop. Dues are payable in 3 payments of $25.00 each.
The first dues payment is due on Friday, October 6th. The second payment is due on November 3th, while the final payment is due on December 1st. Alternatively, you can pay the full amount at one time. Remember, troop dues cover the cost of books, badges, other supplies and snacks.
Uniforms
Our troops uniform consists of a white shirt, vest and khaki bottoms. The vest, along with the council patch and flag, can be purchased at the council shop for approximately $35.00. GSUSA has added to their uniform collection, so there are lots of options for girls to wear. Purchasing a Starter kit is not necessary. For parents who don’t want to pay for shipping, Dr. Holman goes to Westfield once a month on Tuesdays and is happy to pick up uniform components
Please note, you MUST have a vest to be considered in uniform. Wearing the girl scout colors is NOT sufficient nor are graphic T-shirts. In addition, only age level badges go on the front of the uniform, Nut, Cookie and other fun patches must be placed on the back.
As a reminder, girls can wear their scout uniform in place of the EOCCS uniform. Check out the link on the left for uniform specifics, troop numbers & levels. Use the pictures as a guide to know where iron-on/sew everything.
