It’s Derby Time!
Are you ready for the Mighty Girl Derby? This year’s Derby is scheduled for Sunday, May 19th, 1-3p. The derby is a racing event in which Girl Scouts, with the help of parents, build their own cars from wood kits containing a block of pine, plastic wheels, and metal axles. In exchange for the $15 fee participants will receive the car kit, patch, snack, drink and certificate. The deadline to get your car is Friday, May 3rd. Start planning your design now! Design workshops will be Sunday May 5th and Wednesday, May 8th. At the workshop, there will be helpers to cut your block of wood into your desired shape, so you can decorate your car. The workshop times will be confirmed late this week. Last year, one of our girls won her age level. May the fastest car win! (Hint: You can buy weights to make your car heavier and faster). All cars must be inspected on either May 10th or 17th.

Scout-A-Rama
We’ve been invited to a Scout-a-Rama Saturday, May 4th, 11a-3p at Franklin St. John Church in Newark. What’s a Scout-a-Rama? It’s a day of arts, crafts and fun for girl scouts of all ages. It’s a chance to meet other girls scouts from our council before we go to Hershey Park. Lunch will be provided. There is no cost for this event, however, you’ll need to provide you own transportation. We’ll need additional parents to supervise the girls as they complete their activities.

Booth Sales

Although the cookie sale has ended, we still have a few cases of cookies left. Since we can't return any cookies, we'll be selling them on Tuesdays from 4-6p at 682 Park until we're out. If you need any more cookies, let me know. We have everything except, Toffee-tastics and S'mores.

GlassWorks
Making things out of glass is an art form that has been around for centuries. Have you ever wondered how you could make something from glass? Well, here’s your chance. We’re going to GlassWorks on Tuesday, May 21st. We’re going to the glass studio to fuse colored glass into decorative dishes. The cost is $15 and is due May 10th. We’ll be leaving the school at 4:15p and returning at 7:30p. Transportation will be provided.

Hershey Park
Our end the year trip will be camping at Hershey Park! The cost of the trip is $80 and includes admission, food, transportation and camping. We’ll be sleeping in tents at the Hershey Park Campground. The trip is June 1st and 2nd. A non-refundable deposit of $30 was due April 5th, however there is still space - less than 20 seats left on the bus. Girls earned 30¢per box sold, to cover the rest of the trip. Cookie credit certificates will be given out on Friday. All Daisies must be accompanied by an adult. The final payment is due May 17th and will be adjusted for cookie sales.

Dues, Dues, Dues!
Don’t forget-Girl scouts dues were payable in October, November and December. Even if you receive financial assistance for registration from the council, you are still responsible for your troop dues. Dues have been used to cover the cost of books, snacks, materials and patches. If you owe dues, you received a letter just before break. Girls with outstanding dues balances will not be able participate in all the amazingly fun activities we have planned for the remainder of the year.

Mystery Trip

As always, we’re having day experiences for the for the Juniors/Older Girls and Daisies/Brownies.  We’re waiting for confirmations, but keep June 8th and 9th open for these extra special activities. Final details will be available before the end of the week. As always, cookie credit can also be used for these trips.

Sail Away
We are instituting a new trip just for girls who have completed the 8th grade. All girls who have completed the will be able to take a cruise with the troop. Eligible older girls can take the trip every 3 years, starting in 2020 and continuing in 2023. Girls will be able to bank their cookie credit, for 3 years, to cover the cost of the cruise. Our inaugural cruise will be in July, 2020 to Bermuda. See Mrs. Holman for more information and the payment plan.
